They are considered the forefathers of gothic rock: the English band Bauhaus. Founded in 1978 in Northampton, the four art students around singer Peter Murphy already landed a big hit with their first single "Bela Lugosi's Dead."

In 1980 their debut album "In The Flat Field" was released on the young label 4AD, which is now reissued in a vinyl edition.

"In The Flat Field" went straight to the top of the independent charts at the time and entered the Top 100 album chart at number 72. While the album was slated by the established British music press, it was well received by the fanzines. In 2012, the magazine "Sonic Seducer" voted "In The Flat Field" fourth on a list of key albums of the gothic scene.
